Joshua is a Senior Mobile Developer on Full Scale's Philippines team, over 12 years into mobile development and more than 7 of them at Full Scale. In his own words: how his expectations shifted from learning to leading, and what's kept him on the team the longest.
Joshua graduated from the University of Cebu Banilad in 2011 and has built mobile apps through nearly every major shift in the platforms themselves, from early Titanium Appcelerator apps to Ionic to React Native.
Built Titanium Appcelerator apps across books, education, and finance, including a jeepney-route navigation app built specifically for Cebu commuters.
Built Ionic and React Native business apps for labor, asset, and attendance management, working front end, back end, and Android in the same projects.
Now the senior mobile developer across five named apps, from evidence-management software to a multiplayer scoring platform.
"At first I just wanted to gain more experience, but now I want to contribute more and become a leader of a team."
— Joshua, on how his expectations shifted
As the sole or lead mobile developer on each of these projects, Joshua has carried full ownership from first release through years of version updates.
Sole mobile developer: rebuilt the UI for a full rebrand, shipped Version 2 with major performance gains, tested end to end with Detox, and added tablet support.
Joined at Version 1; by Version 5 became the sole mobile developer, leading the team through multiplayer integration and adding family and organization games with leaderboards.
Built 1-on-1 video calls, video recording, and cross-platform support with Ionic to improve communication between therapists and families.
Led frontend development with React Native and Lottie animations, and set up AppCenter for automated builds, testing, and updates.
"Outside of work I enjoy teaching part-time, helping high school and senior students with their computer basic skills and inspiring them with their innovative business ideas with technology."
— Joshua, whose first job was teaching computer skills, before he ever wrote code professionally
Asked to sum up his time at Full Scale, Joshua built his own acronym out of the company's name:
