Your team ships more code than ever. Can anyone vouch for it?
AI Built It. Who Owns It? is our 2026 field report, based on 12 conversations with founders, CTOs and engineering leaders about what AI changed, and who now answers for what it builds.

AI made code cheap. It didn't make it right.
In August and September 2026 we sat in on discovery calls with founders, CTOs and engineering leaders. We expected to talk about rates. Almost every one of them wanted to talk about AI instead: what it has done to the job of building software, and who is now responsible for what it produces. This report is what they told us.

“We expected these calls to be about rates. Instead, almost every buyer wanted to talk about AI, and who is responsible for what it ships. We heard the same worries over and over, so we wrote them down along with the tools that help.”
Matt Watson, CEO, Full Scale
Five things buyers told us
“We went into Christmas break and it was 20%, a great helper. We came back and all of a sudden I’m not writing code anymore.”
Producing code now costs almost nothing. Shipping the wrong code costs as much as ever.

Three tools to use with your team this week

The AI-Era Interview Scorecard
A 7-area rubric for a live build with AI tools, scored 1 to 5, with strong signals and red flags for each area.

The Ownership Checklist
10 things your company should control, not a person or a vendor.

Is your team verification-ready?
A 10-question self-assessment with a score and a next step.
In their words
“I can just do what Claude tells me, but then I don’t know. I need another set of eyes to say this migration was successful and it has high integrity.”
“This is a 3-month deal that you did in 1 weekend.”
“Agents can do a whole lot, but I’ve seen them do too many stupid things without supervision.”
“The word engineer is doing a lot of heavy lifting.”
Written for the people who answer for what ships
CTOs and VPs of Engineering
Deciding how far to trust AI-generated code, and who reviews it.
Founders
Built fast with AI and now need it production-ready.
Engineering managers
Rethinking interviews and code review for AI-assisted developers.
Product leaders
Sitting on validated prototypes that can’t get to production.
Methodology. Based on 12 discovery conversations with technology buyers in the US, UK and Canada, August–September 2026. Names and identifying details removed; quotes lightly edited for clarity.

Engineers hired for judgment, not just code
Full Scale extends engineering teams with dedicated, full-time developers, QA engineers and project managers in the Philippines. They're Full Scale employees, not freelancers, and they work as part of your team. They're grounded in the Product Driven philosophy from CEO Matt Watson's book: understand the user, question the requirement, and own the outcome.
